Short answer: in WoW Forever, Skyborne is the best PvE race for every class it can play, because Wind Blessed gives 2% haste that never turns off. Orc is the pick for Horde Hunters and Warlocks (Command, +5% pet damage), Human for Alliance healers (+10% Spirit), and Undead and Human for most PvP, because they can break fear or stuns on demand.
World of Warcraft: Forever launched on November 4, 2026 with nine classes and ten race options: the eight Classic races plus Skyborne on each faction. Every race now has four racials (two actives, two passives), and Blizzard reworked most of them twice in the last two weeks before launch. Many race guides still list beta numbers. Everything below is checked against Blizzard's development notes, last updated November 2.
Data as of November 6, 2026, launch build. No simulation tool for Forever has published results yet, so the picks come from the racial numbers themselves: what each one adds per minute of a fight, and what it does against the crowd control that kills you in PvP. WoW Forever best race for each class
The full answer in one table. PvE means raid and dungeon damage or healing in the class's main role. PvP means battlegrounds and world PvP.
| Class | PvE Alliance | PvE Horde | PvP Alliance | PvP Horde |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Skyborne (High Order) | Skyborne (Windshaper) | Human | Orc |
| Paladin | Human | Undead | Human | Undead |
| Hunter | Skyborne (High Order) | Orc | Night Elf | Orc |
| Rogue | Skyborne (High Order) | Skyborne (Windshaper) | Gnome | Undead |
| Priest | Human | Troll | Human | Undead |
| Shaman | Dwarf | Skyborne (Windshaper) | Dwarf | Orc |
| Mage | Skyborne (High Order) | Orc | Gnome | Undead |
| Warlock | Human | Orc | Human | Undead |
| Druid | Skyborne (High Order) | Skyborne (Windshaper) | Night Elf | Tauren |
Skyborne ranks higher in this table than in most other lists, and the reason is simple math. 2% haste means about 2% more auto-attacks or casts at all times. Human Ruthless adds 1% crit, worth about 1% damage on physical hits and about 0.5% on spells, since spell crits deal 150%. Orc Blood Fury gives +10% Attack Power and Spell Power for 15 seconds every 2 minutes, which averages about 1.25%. Before launch Wind Blessed was 3% haste. At 2% it's still the strongest always-on throughput racial in the game.
WoW Forever races and classes: every combo
This is Blizzard's launch matrix from the official Create the Hero post. "Yes" means you can create that combination. Combinations marked new didn't exist in Classic.
| Race (faction) | Druid | Hunter | Mage | Paladin | Priest | Rogue | Shaman | Warlock | Warrior |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Human (A) | â | Yes (new) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | â | Yes | Yes |

The six new combinations are Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Undead Paladin and Troll Warlock. Two of them change faction rules: Paladin is no longer Alliance-only, and Shaman is no longer Horde-only. Skyborne picks a faction at character creation. Windshapers can be Shaman, and High Order can be Mage. Blizzard has said more combinations will come later but hasn't listed any. Per LFCarry's matrix guide, Blizzard also said on October 11 that it has no plans to add races from later expansions.

Two Skyborne details matter for raiders. The 1-hour Attuned and Charged buffs are removed when you enter a raid. And the faction split (Read Leyline for High Order, Skysight for Windshapers) follows wow.gg's breakdown of the October 26 changes. Blizzard's notes list both abilities under one Skyborne heading.
WoW Forever racial changes before launch
Blizzard made a final racial pass on October 26, a cooldown pass on October 27, and one more Gnome change on November 2. If a guide shows the old value in the "Before" column, it's out of date.
| Race | Racial | Before | At launch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Ruthless | +2% crit | +1% crit |
| Human | The Human Spirit | +5% Spirit | +10% Spirit |
| Dwarf | Earth Fury â Artisan's Precision | +2% crit damage and healing | +1% hit with spells and attacks |
| Orc | Savage â Command | +1% crit | +5% Hunter and Warlock pet damage |
| Orc | Blood Fury | 3 min cooldown | 2 min cooldown |
| Troll | Berserking | 10 sec | 15 sec |
| Undead | Touch of the Grave | 25 sec internal cooldown | 15 sec internal cooldown |
| Tauren | Endurance | 5% Health plus crit-damage bonus | 5% Health only |
| Tauren | Plainsrunning | 1% per stack, max 30%, worked on mounts | 2% per stack, max 60%, not on mounts |
| Skyborne | Wind Blessed | +3% haste | +2% haste |
| Skyborne | Read Leyline | +100% regen | +50% regen for 15 sec (100% with Attuned) |
| Skyborne | Skysight | +10% speed | +15% speed for 15 sec (30% with Charged) |
| Gnome | Eureka! | Cost and damage buff, class-dependent | 10% cheaper abilities on every class (Nov 2) |
Weapon specializations, such as Human Sword Specialization and Orc Axe Specialization, are gone for good. Blizzard's October 26 note says it isn't healthy for raid and dungeon loot to be judged by "required" weapon types, so no race gets bonus skill with a weapon type. That's why Human and Orc warriors no longer dominate the PvE picks they owned in Classic.
Best race for every class in WoW Forever
Warrior
PvE: Skyborne on both factions. 2% haste means more white swings and more Rage at all times. Orc is the Horde backup: Blood Fury every 2 minutes lines up with Death Wish for burst. PvP: Human for Alliance, because Will to Survive breaks a Rogue's stun chain. Orc for Horde: Hardiness cuts every stun by 20% with no button press.
Paladin
Human for Alliance. Holy is the raid role, and +10% Spirit is the only regen racial a Paladin can get. Dwarf is the Retribution alternative because of +1% hit, but Human's 1% crit is close. Undead is the only Horde Paladin, and the new combo is a good one: Will of the Forsaken breaks fears in PvP, and Touch of the Grave (20% proc chance for Paladins) adds self-healing.
Hunter
Alliance PvE: Skyborne. Wind Blessed includes ranged haste. Dwarf comes second with +1% hit and +5% damage to Beasts. Horde: Orc in every mode. Command adds 5% pet damage, Blood Fury adds Attack Power, and Hardiness helps in PvP. Alliance PvP: Night Elf. Shadowmeld lets you drop combat to set up a trap, and 2% dodge helps against melee.
Rogue
PvE: Skyborne on both factions, for the same haste reason as Warrior. Human (+1% crit) and Dwarf (+1% hit) are close Alliance alternatives, and Orc is the Horde one. PvP: Gnome for Alliance. Escape Artist on a 1-minute cooldown removes Frost Nova and Hamstring, the two things that keep a Rogue off its target. Undead for Horde, because Will of the Forsaken breaks a Priest or Warlock fear.
Priest
Human for Alliance PvE. +10% Spirit is permanent mana regen for a healer, which beats Gnome's Eureka! now that the November 2 change made it a cost discount on every class. Gnome stays the pick for Shadow if the damage part of Eureka! turns out to still work. Troll for Horde PvE. Berserking gives 10% haste for 15 seconds, enough for a heal burst every 3 minutes. PvP: Human for Alliance, Undead for Horde. Will of the Forsaken is the strongest Priest racial in a fear-heavy matchup.
Shaman
Dwarf is the only Alliance Shaman. It's a good fit anyway: +1% hit helps Enhancement and Elemental, and Stoneform cleans poisons and bleeds. Horde PvE: Skyborne Windshaper. 2% haste speeds up every heal and every cast. Orc is the Enhancement alternative because Blood Fury boosts Attack Power. Horde PvP: Orc, for Hardiness and Shatter Curse. Tauren's War Stomp is the close second.
Mage
Alliance PvE: Skyborne High Order. 2% spell haste beats Human's 1% crit, which is worth only about 0.5% on 150% spell crits. Read Leyline also helps with mana. Horde PvE: Orc. Blood Fury's +10% Spell Power, every 2 minutes since October 27, beats Troll's Berserking on a 3-minute cooldown. PvP: Gnome for Alliance (Escape Artist, +5% mana), Undead for Horde (Will of the Forsaken).
Warlock
Alliance: Human. Ruthless adds 1% crit to every Shadow Bolt, and Will to Survive is a stun break against Rogues in PvP. Gnome is the backup for its 5% larger mana pool for Life Tap. Horde PvE: Orc, thanks to Command (+5% pet damage) and Blood Fury. Horde PvP: Undead, because Will of the Forsaken shuts down the other Warlock's Fear. The new Troll Warlock is fine for leveling, since Regeneration keeps 20% of health regen running in combat, but it isn't the top pick.
Druid
PvE: Skyborne on both factions. Feral gets 2% haste, and Restoration gets 2% faster casts plus Read Leyline (Alliance only) for mana between pulls. Night Elf is the Alliance bear-tank alternative for +2% dodge. PvP: Night Elf for Alliance (Shadowmeld, Quickness), Tauren for Horde (War Stomp, +5% Health).
Horde or Alliance: which faction for which class?
The new combinations even things out more than in Classic. Both factions now have Paladins and Shaman, and Skyborne is on both sides. The racial gaps that remain:
- Horde is better for pet classes. Only Orc has Command (+5% Hunter and Warlock pet damage). Alliance has nothing like it.
- Horde has the best anti-fear tool. Will of the Forsaken makes Undead the default PvP race for Priest, Mage, Warlock and Rogue.
- Alliance has the best healer passive. The Human Spirit's +10% Spirit has no Horde equivalent. Troll's Berserking is a cooldown, not regen.
- Alliance has the only stun break. Will to Survive removes stuns outright. Orc Hardiness only shortens them by 20%.
Is Skyborne good in WoW Forever?
Yes. It's the strongest PvE race wherever it's available, and the weakest PvP race. Wind Blessed's 2% haste is the only racial that adds throughput every second of a fight, and the October 26 nerf from 3% to 2% didn't change that. Its weak spot is PvP: no stun, fear or snare break, and Walk on Air (a 10-second glide) is mobility, not an escape button.
Skyborne's other racials are mostly for questing. Attuned and Charged last an hour and persist through death, but both are removed on entering a raid, so raiders only get the 15-second base effects. Skyborne also has its own starting zone, Zephras Isle.
