Mastering Controller Inner and Outer Deadzones
A deadzone is a software threshold applied to an analog thumbstick that dictates when input begins registering and when it caps out at maximum velocity.
Inner Deadzone: Filters out micro-jitters and resting position potentiometer drift. Setting it too high makes fine aim adjustments feel sluggish, while setting it too low can result in involuntary camera movement.
Outer Deadzone (Max Threshold): Defines the point where your character or vehicle reaches 100% turn speed. If your physical joystick suffers from corner flattening (poor circularity), lowering the outer deadzone to 92โ95% ensures you still achieve full turn acceleration.
