PS5 Fan Cleaning Guide

Remove Dust and Maintain Optimal Cooling Performance

Author
Difficulty1/5

Sony designed the PS5 with built-in dust catchers that make cleaning easier than any previous PlayStation. Two dust port holes (accessible after removing the side panels) let you vacuum accumulated dust without full disassembly. For deeper cleaning, the fan can be accessed with minimal teardown. Regular cleaning every 6-12 months prevents overheating and extends your console's lifespan.

Cleaning Methods

Method 1: External Dust Port Cleaning (2 Minutes)

No tools needed. Do this every 3-6 months.

1

Step 1: Remove Side Panels

Power off and unplug PS5. Lay it flat. Lift and slide each white panel off (pull the corner, slide toward bottom).

2

Step 2: Vacuum Dust Ports

Locate the two dust collection holes along the bottom edge. Use a vacuum cleaner with a narrow nozzle attachment to suction dust directly from these ports. Use compressed air from the opposite direction to push dust toward the vacuum.

3

Step 3: Replace Panels

Snap the side panels back on. Done.

Method 2: Fan Removal and Deep Clean (15 Minutes)

For consoles that are noticeably loud despite dust port cleaning.

1

Step 1: Remove the Fan Cover

After removing side panels, locate the fan cover (metal plate with a sticker). Remove the T8 screws holding it in place.

2

Step 2: Remove and Clean the Fan

Disconnect the fan power cable. Lift the fan out. Use compressed air and a soft brush to remove all dust from the fan blades and the heatsink intake area beneath.

3

Step 3: Reassemble

Replace the fan, reconnect power cable, replace the cover. Replace side panels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does cleaning the PS5 void the warranty?

Removing the side panels does NOT void warranty as Sony designed it for user access. Removing the fan cover (Method 2) involves removing a sticker that covers a screw, which could be interpreted as voiding warranty. Method 1 is completely safe.

Q: How often should I clean my PS5?

Every 6-12 months for normal environments. Every 3-4 months for pet owners or smokers.

PS5 fan cleaning is the easiest PlayStation maintenance task. The built-in dust ports make it a 2-minute job that prevents overheating.
