Tilt the stick fully to one side to open the gap at its base, and give short bursts of compressed air into that gap while rotating the stick through its range, keeping the can upright. Then click L3 or R3 firmly twenty or thirty times to help work loose whatever the air dislodged, and blow it out again.
For a sticky or mushy click specifically, a small amount of isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) on a cotton swab worked into the gap around the stick base can dissolve the oily grime binding the mechanism. Don't soak it, and let it dry fully before powering on. Retest afterward against your baseline from step 1.

If cleaning doesn't help and you're comfortable opening the controller, check the switch's solder joints before buying any parts.
